I was called out today from a dental building in Irvine, California that I do the air conditioning service for. The call was because the Cox cable TV boxes over heated their cabinet. I took a look at what was going on and this is what I found! The dental offices uses cox communications for their TV’s and also their music for their rooms! They just had cox communications do an upgrade and 7 new boxes in their cabinet that is made for all their audio and video equipment! I was surprised to be hit by a wall of heat as I opened the door to take a look at what was going on! Heat means a lot of electrical being used and also causing the system or equipment to overheat.
I am not sure why cox communication does not come out of the 1990’s and upgrade their systems so people or business do not have to pay the price on electrical loads and also the heat that is added to the load calculations for the offices. My suggestions are we can run a exhaust fan in the ceiling and duct the hot air outdoors now this is going to cost more money for a exhaust fan and ducting to the roof! Now we also will have to cut the front cabinet door and add a grill so that the conditioned air can flow through the cabinet and out through the exhaust fan! I am not sure why cox communications require a cable box for each TV this causes a lot of heat!
My second suggestion is that the business gets rid of the expensive cox communications company! And go with direct TV! I do not work for direct TV but I do have it at my home! I have 1 main box and it runs 4 small Wi-Fi boxes the heat load is really nothing! The price per month for direct TV is way less and will save you money! If the customer goes with direct TV we will not have to install a new exhaust system for those energy guzzling boxes that cox uses!
Take the test yourself go to your current cable TV box and see how much heat it is putting off! This heat is from electrical use and if you would like to save some money get rid of it and shop around! If you don’t your air conditioner will have to run longer and harder to remove that extra heat the cable box is putting out! Do you have an issue with your current cable TV provider and the heat the boxes are putting out!
